Though all love originates in God and is for that reason God's own love, yet we are permitted to catch and reflect back that love in such manner that it becomes our love indeed, in much the same way that sunlight reflected from the moon becomes moonlight. - A.W. Tozer

The Thiessens Go To Washington

We spent the first week of March in Washington D.C. "Wasn't it still fairly cold that week?" I hear you ask. Yes, yes it was. It was cold enough that we didn't have running water for a few days, and we almost didn't get our main pipe thawed enough to move on Saturday morning when we pulled out to head to our next destination.

We had a great week, though, despite the cold. We went to the three main Smithsonian Museums (Air and Space, Natural History, and American History) as well as a few of the more specific when we needed to use the restroom and were across the Mall from our intended destination.

We also rode on the Metro almost every day, which always included escalators, joy of joys.

We saw the Spirit of St. Louis, Skylab, the Hope Diamond, and lots and lots of other fantastic things.

For our last day of touring, we met our MDS friend, Dennis, who took us to see the Botanical Gardens and the Capitol visitor center.

The Gardens were everyone's favorite. It may have had something to do with the temperatures in the 20's and the eight inches of snow outside that day too.

It was all great fun, but we were certainly glad to get out of the city and move on with our adventure. The next chapter involves a gorgeous vineyard and the Shenandoah Valley. Stay tuned.
